A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF-
I hail from Austin, Texas and proceeded to graduate from TCU with a B.A. degree. I am your average person. Most likely less.
FITNESS BACKGROUND –
I’ve been doing this fitness thing since I was a young pup being yelled at by coaches to “drink my own spit” while I was taking laps, thirsty. I played most sports that involved balls, but always dreamed of taking the stage at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest next to Kobayashi and Joey Chestnut aka Joey Jaws aka Mr. America. Only problem was I could never get the technique on my bun dipping correct, which directly limited my intake.
FAVORITE MOVEMENT, FAVORITE WORKOUT-
Favorite movement is the snatch. Favorite workout is pretty much anything that has a long time domain and makes you think unpleasant, dark thoughts. Or hitting a heavy snatch. A strong case can be made for that.
LEAST FAVORITE WORKOUT-
I find it hard to bring myself to say I have a “least favorite” workout for the simple fact that I am grateful to have the ability to move and find that it is something we all take for granted on a regular basis. While certain workouts may suck, having the ability to fulfill them is much better than the alternative.
HOW DO I SEE CROSSFIT BEING DIFFERENT –
I don’t necessarily think that crossfit is glaringly different than other fitness programs because similar stimuli can be reached if you put enough intensity into whatever it is that you are doing. But. Where crossfit does take a significant turn is in its community. Infrequently do you find a group of people who are looking to not only better themselves, but better the individuals next to them as well. And while it does get a bad reputation from outsiders who constantly criticize the form of its participants, the rep schemes, and the coaching, these denouncers fail to realize that what they see online or on TV (that which they are criticizing) is a minute percentage of the population. In its simplest and purest form, crossfit is about self improvement, and that is something I find to be awesome. *steps off soapbox*
SOMETHING OTHERS MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME –
*steps back on soapbox* I split the majority of my time between Dallas and Austin and I like to pretend I know what I’m doing on a basketball court. I also like to shoot contested 3’s from places I shouldn’t, which makes total sense of the fact that J.R. Smith is my favorite basketball player. I’ve watched Crazy, Stupid, Love more times than I’d care to admit (Gosling. Duh.) and FIRMLY believe that the Fast and the Furious franchise is an artistic masterpiece. At the moment, Matt “Megatoad” Stoney is my favorite athlete and Tim “Eater X” Janus is someone who I feel the people have slept on for years. Lastly, if you’ve made it this far, 1. bless your heart, 2. how underrated is Vin Diesel?
